The first week has been pretty good compared to the horror stories I've heard from fellow new moms. Grandma and Grandpa Haskett and Kaylee came to visit us while we were in the hospital and couldn't get enough of their first grandbaby, although I can't blame them because she is the apple of both Steven's and my eye. It was such a blessing to have them here to help! Kaia was on her best behavior. Kaia fussed a little, but didn't wail or scream like some new babies are apt to do. As soon as Grandma and Grandpa had left for home, she decided that it was no longer necessary to exhibit perfect newborn behavior. Fortunately, it doesn't happen at night while we're trying to sleep. She instead waits for day to cry, soil her clothes and everything nearby the changing table, fuss, and wiggle around when she needs to hold still. She's developed this lovely new habit of not swallowing while she nurses after she's gotten her fill. I become soaked as her private binky; the feeding ends and Kaia's sweet face is covered in milk.
Her first well check went well I guess you would say. Poor Kaia did not want to be poked and prodded, was not at all pleased that she had to be in just a diaper, and just about screamed the ears off of the poor nurse who was trying to take off the bandaid that Kaia received at the hospital. She is perfectly healthy, has no sign of jaundice, and is gaining weight at a healthy rate.
I feel much better and very energetic. I am taking it easy as instructed (more like threatened) by my mother. I have had quite a headache today, but I'm sure if I take another nap I'll feel better. It is SO hot now, and the afternoons are almost unbearable. We try to keep Kaia in a onesie, but today she's just in a diaper because of the heat. Hopefully it will be cooler soon.
Amidst all of the fussing, Kaia does smile more and more each day. I wish I could capture her smiling, but those smiles come and go before I get a shot. She has several dimples and is so adorable when she smiles with her little rosebud lips.

Hey! I recognize that headband! Sweet baby. Hope she mellows and resumes the good baby behavior for you.
